The State Scientific Council adopted the State-level scientific project in August 2003, regarding Cedemex, a herbal detoxicant created by scientists from the Critical Diseases Research and Treatment Institute. The medicine is proven to be able to detoxify drug addicts in a safe and effective manner. For this reason, the Ministry of Health has given permission for use of Cedemex throughout Vietnam including drug detoxification centers (following Decisions 90/2004,173/2005/QD-QLDand 325/2007/QD-QLD of Pharmaceutical Administration of Vietnam).
However, because of Vietnam’s equipments and material facilities that haven’t proven Cedemex’s effect in drug detoxification, especially the stabilization on symptoms of hunger for drugs and paresthesia. Therefore, within the framework of scientific cooperation under the Protocol V of the governments of Vietnam and China from 2004 to 2007, the Critical Diseases Research and Treatment Institute cooperated together with Chinese scientists to launch a project “researching the mechanism and pharmacy of Cedemex”. In February 2008 Chinese scientists made public the results of the project to Vietnam affirming that Cedemex is able to rehabilitate endogenous enmorphine and resist against mental reliance of morphine addicting animals on an experimental basis.
After four years being used at drug rehabilitation centers in Vietnam, Cedemex has been recognized safely and effectively by State relevant agencies in drug detoxication. In order to meet the demands of drug diseases prevention, the Ministry of Health made public Decision 2406/QD-BYT on July 2, 2008 allowing for the pilot use of Cedemex for drug detoxification at home and communities in eight provinces and cities of Vietnam.
Itinerary of the project:
Dr. Nguyen Phu Kieu, the chairman of the Critical Diseases Research and Treatment Institute, movedly spoke of the hardships they were facing during nine years of research to look for the remedy of current drug medecines . The State-level scientific project got started in 1995 and ended with success for Cedemex, a herbal detoxicant made by scientists of the Critical Diseases Research and Treatment Institute under the direction of Professor Vu Van Chuyen, the head of the project, and Dr. Nguyen Phu Kieu, the deputy head of the project.
After preclinical test on voluntary drug addicts, Cedemex was acknowledged in August 2003 by the State Scientific Council as safe and effective in helping detoxify drug addicts and stabilizing many symptoms of drug detoxificational syndroms, especially the stabilization on symptoms of hunger for drugs and paresthesia. It is also proven more effective than antianxiety, statistics with P<0.01...
After that, in cooperation with Chinese government under the Protocol V signed between 2 sides, Dr. Nguyen Phu Kieu, who was then the head of the project, got teamwork with scientists to look and see how Cedemex can help detoxify Opiates addicts. Particularly, Chinese scientists tried Cedemex for morphine addicting animals (including guinea-pigs, white house-mice and monkeys). With the measurement of molecule and cell analysis on modern equipments and machines, Chinese scientists came to a conclusion that Vietnamese Cedemex can softly stop addiction and make addicts not to be slaver over drug. The conclusion testifies that the Vietnam State Scientific Council’s assessment of Cedemex is fair.
Looking for re-addiction prevention:
Dr. Nguyen Phu Kieu said that there are biological, social and psychological reasons for drug addiction and using additive drugs. So, scientists have to create medicine that can terminate the biological and psychological factors. On conditioned tastedly position model, Chinese scientists also said that Vietnamese Cedemex can resist against mental reliance (i.e. effectively prevent re-addiction following the experiments on morphine addicting animals).
Cedemex can overcome shortcomings of other detoxicants which are now available in Vietnam. It is proven to be safe, not to cause re-addiction, softly stop addiction and also able to rehabilitate endogenous enmorphine and increase resistance against mental reliance of morphine addicting animals on an experimental basis in China.
The Grassroots Scientific Council presided by Professor, Dr. Pham Thanh Ky, the former director of the Hanoi University of Pharmacy and the chairman of the Grassroots Scientific Council, held a meeting on May 2, 2008 approving the results of research on Cedemex usage in China following the Protocal V. The council said that the project has contributed to treating drug addiction and preventing re-addiction and that the State should quickly develop the project to research on anti-addiction that is to testify the effective use of Cedemex on a preclinical basis.
Rehabilitating addiction-caused functional disorders:
According to Dr. Nguyen Phu Kieu, longer or shorter all drug addicts have functional disorders, regarding mental disorders and a decline in memory/sex. The level of disorders relies on the addiction duration, the usage level of addictive drug and the health of every addict. He also added that the matter of treatment plan need to be considered seriously, thus we have given back our commodity an ordinary person with psychology and pathology. From then on, they will integrate commodity with own efforts, society and family helps to become good citizens and contribute to preventing re-addiction.
In 2007 scientists from the Critical Diseases Research and Treatment Institute started to research on Cedemex to see if it is able to prevent re-addiction and relieve functional disorders of Opiates addicts who take Cedemex at home on a voluntary basis. After patients and their families are advised fully about: “Drug detoxification – reality and solution – detoxification guidline and readdtiction prevention after rehabilitation with Cedemex”. Patients have treatment of 4 focal days with 120 capsules to softly stop addiction and rehabilitate endogenous enmorphine, they have to take continuously for 6 months, 10 capsules/twice/day from 5th day on and combine with functional disorders treatment such as mental disorder, memory/sex decline, The surprising practice shows that many patients can return to normal after using Cedemex for six consecutive months. Mr. Le Ngoc Quan who lives at 10 Ly Bon, Vinh Yen city, Vinh Phuc province, sent a letter to the institute saying, “Now that my son has used Cedemex for six months, he is completely healthy and does not slaver over the drug. He can eat and sleep well and has gained weight. He wants to work as a normal man. On behalf of my family members and my son I would like to thank Dr. Nguyen Phu Kieu and his institute that have reborn my son and rescued our family.”
In sumary, the results of Cedemex usage and research on a preclinical basis in Vietnam and China show that Cedemex can overcome shortcomings of other detoxicants in markets as it is proven to be safe, not to cause re-addiction, quickly recuperate, simply use without combining other therapeutic methods, maximum stabilize symptoms of detoxification syndrom, relieve entitatively addicted cause (hunger for drug) and resist against mental reliance (effectively re-addiction prevention) on an experimental basis.
In the near future when the World Health Organization and the World Drug Prevention Organization combine with Vietnamese scientists and competent agencies to research and prove Cedemex to be able to prevent re-addiction on a preclinical basis in accordance with experimental study. If this happens, Vietnam will be proud to be the first in the world to make a herbal drug that can overcome the shortcomings of other detoxicants now available in Vietnam.
